Prayers for my family are vital.

I’ve believed in the power of prayer for my family for as long as I can remember. I’ve seen evidence of it in my own life and the lives of people I know. More than that, we have examples in the bible of prayer altering the course of events and we have Jesus, our Savior, modeling prayer for us.

When it comes to prayers for my family, I believe it is one of the greatest weapons I possess. 

Praying for my family changes everything.

Have you ever wondered, “How do I pray for my family?” Or, “How do you cover your family in prayer” when you’ve felt helpless to be able to “do” anything else for your family when it was beyond your power?

This is the place where I learned that prayers for my family were the most powerful thing I could do for them.

It’s incredible how prayer works. My prayers for my family go straight to the throne of God, and the same goes for your prayers, too. Praying for your family is a must.

Why should we pray for our families?

Maybe you’ve asked, “Why should we pray for our families?”

When we pray for our families, we’re submitting to God and calling on Him to intervene.

God hears every single plea, request, praise, worry, and fear. When we pray, we are giving our family to the Lord of Heaven’s Army and entrusting them into His care.

When we pray, it builds our faith and trust into believing that God is who He says He is.

Prayers for my family bring me hope and peace because I know they are in the hands of Hope and Peace Himself.

Prayers for My Family

Using God’s Word as a prayer book is one of my favorite ways to pray. I pray the Psalms this way as well along with many other verses.

Prayer of Blessing

May the LORD bless you and protect you. May the LORD smile on you and be gracious to you. May the LORD show you his favor and give you his peace. Numbers 6:24-26 NLT

From as early as I can remember growing up in church, this has always been such a beautiful prayer of blessing to me. It captures the essence of our heart’s longings and a powerful family blessing prayer.

Blessing, protection, the Lord’s smile, His graciousness, favor, and peace. It’s a beautiful prayer for family protection and guidance. God is always the lavish Giver and gives in abundance. It pleases Him to do so! May we humble ourselves to Him and pray the same for our family.

Prayer:

Father, we humble ourselves before you knowing you are the true source of blessing, protection, and peace. We ask for your favor and blessing upon our family.

Lord, we desire to please you and bring a smile upon your face. Father, thank you for your graciousness and mercy upon us. We ask for it each and every day!

You are always our ultimate blessing and we pray that you continue to pour yourself upon our family. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Prayer for Family Strength

Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.

Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:28-31

These are powerful verses to pray when you need a prayer for family strength. We get tired and weak and need God’s renewal and strength to carry us. This scripture promises us that He will! This verse is also a mighty verse to pray for your family in difficult times.

It turns our attention to the everlasting God – who will not grow tired or weary – and always has the strength to carry us and strengthen us!

Prayer:

Father, we’re tired and weak. We need your strength to fall upon us and renew our family. We praise you for knowing your word is true and your promise to give strength to us when we are weary!

Lord, thank you for being on watch. Thank you for guarding and protecting us and always ready to step in to rescue your children. Father, renew our strength today. Our hope rests fully in you. Lord, we rest on your wings and trust you to carry us to safety. Renew us today with your mighty strength. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Prayer for Family Unity:

Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony.  Colossians 3:13-14 NLT

We’re called to live in peace and unity. However, we also live in a broken world and that doesn’t come naturally to us or our family members. 

So, a prayer for family unity is a way to go on the offense. It reminds me of what the Lord has done for me and how we should follow his example. This is a daily prayer for family lately.

Praying this also shows me my responsibility to model it before my family as well. Praying for family members that we would be bound by unity is a prayer that helps bring your family closer together tied by the cord of God’s love.

Prayer:

Father, we can experience perfect harmony and unity because of the Lord’s work on the cross. Help my family be united in your perfect love. Father, help us walk out true forgiveness when we are hurt and offended by each other. May we clothe ourselves with your love today and grow together seeking you.

Heavenly Father, we pray as a family that you humble each of us to love as you love us. Lord, thank you for your unfailing love and help us to display that amongst our family. Empty us of all the disunity and pour your bond of peace and unity upon us. We live in expectation that our family be tightly united again in the power name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

Prayer for a Heart Seeking After the Lord:

One thing I ask from the LORD, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the LORD and to seek him in his temple. Psalm 27:4 NIV

This is one of the most powerful prayers we can pray for ourselves and for our families – for hearts that seek after the Lord. When our eyes are fixed on the LORD, beauty is beheld.

It’s a prayer that I know is always God’s will. He desires each of us to seek after Him and it’s a powerful prayer we can pray for our family.

I want my family to long for the heart of God. To seek Him in all things. I am sure that is your heart, as well.

Prayer:

Lord, to gaze on the beauty of the LORD is a sight we can only imagine in this life. You give us your presence and we pray for this each and every day for ourselves and for our family.

Lord, sway our hearts today to desire your presence above all things. Remind us that in your presence is where peace, rest, and security is found.

Father, for today, may we seek your heart and be an example to our family of what this looks like. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Prayer For A Peaceful Home:

I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33

Knowing that we’re going to face trouble in our lives isn’t exactly a thrilling thought. But the Lord tells us, “take heart! I have overcome the world.” Even in the midst of chaos, we can still rest in the peace of God!

I love this verse because when there is trouble (a crazy virus, finances, family strife, sickness), the Lord speaks to that trouble in this very verse.

He sees that trouble you are facing and tells you, “Take heart! I have overcome!” Peace rests in our souls believing His word is true.

This is not easy to do, but the more we trust his words with even a mustard seed of faith, we grow more and more confident in who our Savior is and what He can do!

So, prayers for a peaceful home bring me back to the words, “Take heart!” and I pray this for all of us to cling to this promise.

Prayer:

Father, help my family and I to take heart in you today! Our eyes see trouble around us and we’re tempted to focus on our concerns but help us to turn and take heart instead as you have said.

Pour your peace upon our home and over our family so that whatever trouble we face, we walk with the confidence that you have OVERCOME it. Lord, let us and our home be a beacon of peace so others desire to know where our peace comes from. May we rest in your peace today, Father. In Jesus’ Name, Amen. 

Prayer of Hope:

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope. Romans 15:13 NIV

As believers in Jesus Christ, we have been infused with living hope! There is nothing in this world that can ever take that away from us. 

I want my family to always cling to the God of hope. He is the source of our joy and peace and I pray that we stand firmly knowing our hope is grounded in the Lord.

Prayers for my family regarding hope are prayers that God delights in. He is our hope and our salvation and the sooner this is realized and received in our family, the sooner the world will know where our hope is found!

Prayer:

Father, you are our God of hope! We give praise knowing that we can claim this gift of hope! Lord, we desire for our family to know it as well.

We pray that our hearts pursue you when we seek calm in the storms of life. Lord, let our family bring hope to the world around us. Let it start with our family!

We want our words and actions to model the hope we claim we believe in. When we are tempted to fall into fear around us, fiercely remind us that YOU are the God of hope and fear doesn’t stand a chance with you. In all things, hope is always ours. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Prayer for Family Protection and Guidance

Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God in whom I trust.” Psalm 91:1-2

I’ve added an additional prayer for family protection and guidance. Prayers for my family have included these lately with this crazy world we live in.

Sometimes we seek shelter in our home but the verses in Psalm 91 remind me when I pray for my family that our shelter is only in God alone. He alone is our refuge, strength, fortress, and shelter. So, a prayer for family protection and guidance is guided by this verse and reminds me of this truth.

Prayer:

Father, thank you for your shelter and protection for my family. Help me to cling to you and the truth of this verse when I am tempted to build and rely on my own man-made shelter.

Lord, help me to trust you with the protection, care, and guidance of my family. May we dwell in you alone and be reminded that only then will we find true rest and security.

Cover my family with your love and protection. Thank you for your faithfulness to do so. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Prayer For My Family And Myself

Submit yourselves therefore to God. James 4:7

Whether prayers for family members or prayers for my family and myself, praying to yield ourselves to God is likely one of the most powerful prayers we could ever pray.

We all must submit ourselves before God for the full power of the Holy Spirit to bring God’s greatest blessings. I pray for myself and for my family as a unit to submit ourselves before the Lord.

Prayer:

Dear Lord, I come before you submitting myself to your Lordship over my life and the life of my family. If there is anything that I have placed before you, please help me to put it in its rightful position so that you may be exalted.

Lord, I pray this for each member of my family that we all submit to you. Father, I know this is not possible without the power of your Holy Spirit working within us. I thank you that you always hear our prayers and always love us with your unfailing love. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Powerful Morning Prayer for my Family

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6

If you’re looking for a powerful morning prayer for your family, pray that each member submits to the Lord and depends on Him for all things throughout the day. When we trust in the Lord and surrender ourselves to Him, we give Him full access for His Spirit to work through us.

It’s so important to pray for this each day so we can trust and depend on Him fully.

Prayer:

Father, help us to trust you fully and completely. It’s so tough relinquishing ourselves to you but we know you are faithful and trustworthy. Lord, I pray this for my family that we all grow to trust you with all our heart and during the times we tend to lean on our own understanding, prompt us to lean on you instead.

I pray this morning that today is your day. We trust you with it and we’re submitting to you. Make our paths straight and guide each and every one of our steps today. We thank you for going before us and behind us always! In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Prayers for my Family
