What is the good news of the Gospel?

To know the Good News of the Gospel, you have to know the bad news.

Our holy God is the most supremely worthy Object of our affection, deserving all honor, and glory. He created you and I with the intention that we might glorify Him, find our delight in Him, and live in complete obedience to Him.

Yet we failed Him miserably, rebelling against Him, and rather than give Him glory, we try to exalt ourselves above Him.

Every single person is guily of this. Romans 3:23 tells us, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

We live according to our own way, wisdom, and have broken either the letter or the spirit of God’s law. Because of God’s holiness, He cannot overlook sin. Our sin against our holy God deserves death. Romans 6:23 tells us, “For the wages of sin is death.”

Even if we think we’ve lived a mostly good, morally upright life, and try to be a “good person”, we still fall abundantly short of His perfection. James 2:10 tells us, “For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles in one point, he has become guilty of all.”

We are unable to save ourselves. We can’t be good enough or earn His love by being “good”. It’s not possible. What is “good enough” anyway? Romans 5:6 tells us we “…are…helpless.”

Because of sin against a holy God, we are by nature children of wrath. (Ephesians 2:3) Spend any time considering the fury and wrath of God and you will quickly understand how this is the bad news and how terrifying it is when fully grasped.

What can be done to alter this course of destruction we are facing?

What is the Good News that Jesus Preached

We learn about the good news of the Gospel, Jesus Christ.

What we could not do for ourselves, God did for us. He sent His one and only Son into the world to live the life we could never live and to die the death we deserved to die.

He loves us so much that He willingly suffered the loss of His only Son and was even willing to allow His Son to suffer for our sins at the cross.

John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” And Romans 8:32 says, “He..did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him over for us all.”

Jesus loved us so much that He willingly laid down His life for you and me.

John 15:12 tells us, “..I have loved you.” and verses 13 & 14, “Greater love has no one that this, that one lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends.” His death and blood were the full payment and sacrifice for our sins. He sacrificed His sinless life for ours.

On the third day after Jesus’ death, God raised Him from the dead. This showed that His death was completely sufficient to atone for every sin that you and I have or will ever commit. It also showed the Son of God defeated death!

God then exalted Christ to His own right hand, where Christ now reigns and grants salvation and forgiveness to all who call on Him in faith.

Acts 13:30 tells us, “But God raised Him from the dead..” And verse 38-39, “Therefore let it be known to you, brothers, that through Him forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you, and through Him everyone who believes is freed from all things.”

When we place our faith in Jesus Christ, God instantly grants us a GREAT salvation!

The Good News of Jesus Christ

How do we receive God’s salvation?

Romans 10:9-10 tells us, “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.”

When we confess Jesus is Lord and repent of our sins, we are turning from our sins and submitting to His Lordship. When we believe in Jesus, we fully rely on His life, death, and resurrection as completely satisfied and accepted by God. We fully rely on Him.

“Whoever believes in Jesus is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.” (John 3:18)

What is the gospel message?

Many people profess to be a Christian and yet are still bound by their sins.

The Good News of The Gospel breaks the power of sin.

When Jesus Christ comes into your life, you are not bound by your sins any longer!

Colossians 2:13 tells us, “..He made you alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our transgressions.” And Psalm 103:12 tells us, “As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from me.”

The Good News of the Gospel is incredibly amazing news!

The blood He shed on the cross – for you – covers you completely. His forgiveness covers every single sin. Sins from 22 years ago, to sins of yesterday, to the sins you and I are going to commit tomorrow.

YOU ARE FORGIVEN.

Fully and completely forgiven. This is only and always because of Jesus.

Friend, I pray you know this and God’s Spirit brings this truth to life in your heart today!

Romans 8:1 tells us, “Therefore, there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” That means zero condemnation. None. Zilch. If God has no condemnation for you now that you are in Christ Jesus, why would we continue to carry condemnation on ourselves? It was fully spent at the cross on our Savior.

Every ounce of God’s wrath was poured out on Christ at the cross.

We do not deserve any of this and yet, this is our salvation! We can never praise our Savior enough!

The Gospel and God’s Righteousness

The Good News of the Gospel continues!

Our salvation makes us now children of God. Our confession of faith in Jesus Christ brings us into His family through adoption!

John 1:12 tells us, “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name.”

He gives us the gift of the Holy Spirit. Ephesians 3:16 tells us, “that He would grant you..to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man,” The Holy Spirit pours out God’s love within our heart and testifies with our spirit that we are children of God. (Romans 8)

God also justified us and this gives us peace with God that will last forever! Romans 5:1 tells us, “Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

This is astounding Good News!

And it still gets better! God has declared us innocent of our sins and declared us righteous with the righteousness of Jesus!

The Good News Of The Gospel covers us in Christ’s righteousness. Jesus gives us righteous standing with God.

For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. 2 Corinthains 5:21

Is there anything more beautiful than this!? 2 Corinthians 5:21 gets me every single time.

I can’t write this without tears. For my sakeand yours.

My precious Savior does this for me. And He does this FOR YOU.

Find rest in His righteousness today!

But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed. Isaiah 53:5

Celebrating the Good News of the Gospel

Now, God has only love, compassion, and deepest affection for you and I. He looks upon us and treats us with gracious favor and always looks to work all things together for our ultimate and eternal good. (Romans 8:28)

His grace abounds. And when we sin, His mercy is greater and His grace continues to abound. Romans 5:20-21 tells us, “..where sin increased, grace abounded all the more so that, as sin reigned in death, even so grace would reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

His great love for us never ceases. He longs for us to repent and confess our sins to Him so that He might show His grace and forgiveness. “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9

This is what our Savior does for us. This is the Good News of The Gospel.

Have you received God’s great gift of salvation? If not, I urge and invite you to receive Jesus as your Lord and Savior today!
