I think one of the greatest gifts we can give to our marriage is to lift our husbands up in prayer.
Praying For Your Husband
As believers in Jesus Christ, we get to approach the throne of God in confidence! (Hebrews 4:16) God invites us to pray and call out to Him not just for ourselves but on behalf of our husband and our marriage.
This is one of the greatest privileges that we possess. It is so important that we are diligently lifting up and praying for our spouse.
“I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people…This is good and pleases God our Savior, who wants everyone to be saved and to understand this truth.” 1 Timothy 2:1, 4
When we humbly approach God with our prayers on behalf of our husband, we can know this: “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us – whatever we ask – we know that we have what we asked of him.” 1 John 5:14-15
Pray with “the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen” Hebrews 11:1. So let’s begin calling out to God for our husband and confidently know God hears us!

Praying For Your Husband
We are asking the Lord to meet him right where he is. We are praying that every need is met by God alone. One simple way to pray that is helpful is to use the acronym for PRAY to help guide your prayers according to God’s Word.
- PRAISE: Acknowledge and praise how God’s character is revealed in these verses. Take time to praise God for His attributes that are revealed.
- REPENT: Consider how these scriptures reveal unbelief, sin, or fear in your life. Take time to confess those areas to God in humility.
- ASK: Ask according to scripture. Pray for yourself and others based on what you’ve read.
- YIELD: Take time talking to God about how you want to apply what you’ve learned.
Praying for your husband – Heart to Submit to the Lord
One prayer that you can pray for your husband is praying that he realizes his need for a Savior if he does not already know Jesus. If he does have a personal relationship with Jesus, pray that his heart submits to the Lord each and every day.
Then Jesus declared, ‘I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty”. John 6:35
“Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.” John 15:5

Lord, you are the bread of life and provider of all things. I confess that I do not always depend on you the way that I should and sometimes I elevate my husband even above you. I ask for your forgiveness and desire to grow in learning more what it means that you alone are the bread of life! Thank you for the gift of my husband. Lord, you know every detail about him and you know his heart. I pray you draw him to you each and every day and that he submits to you. I ask that I daily submit to you and be drawn nearer to you and to my husband. Lord, we are nothing without you and I ask that we both know and believe this completely, moment by moment. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Praying for your husband – Strength
Another prayer you can pray for your husband is that he will find his strength in the Lord. Pray that his faith will be strengthened through Christ. Come to God asking Him to empower your husband with the Lord’s strength to walk boldly in his faith.
The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. ..Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:28b-29,31
Warfare Prayer For Husband:
Father, thank you that no matter what, we can rest in your strength for all things. You never get tired or weary, you give strength and our hope is only found in you alone! We praise you for this truth and reminder. Lord, I pray that my husband’s heart is persuaded to find his strength in you alone. God, I want to do all that I can to encourage his faith and not try to become his holy spirit. Help me not to hamper his walk with you! You are sufficient in all things. Help us both to find our strength in you above anything else. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
Praying for your husband – Security and Protection
Pray that your husband finds security and protection in God alone and recognizes that fear of the Lord leads to life. Pray that God becomes his default and not his last resort.
He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection. Psalm 91:4
Fear of the Lord leads to life, bringing security and protection from harm. Proverbs 19:23
Warfare Prayer for Husband:
Father, You alone are our shelter and protector. A reverent fear of you is what leads to life! Thank you for the security and life that you give us. I praise you that you always keep watch and that our shelter is always found in you. Lord, I pray you cover my husband completely with security and protection. God, protect his thoughts, mind, and heart that he honors you. I’m entrusting him to you and I believe in your faithful promises. Help us both turn to you and fear you above all things! In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
Praying for your husband – Purity
Pray your husband has purity of heart and mind. Our world is coming hard after our hearts and mind. We can have peace knowing Christ has overcome the world (John 16:33) but we still need to diligently pray and actively stand against anything impure!
Teach me your ways, O Lord, that I may live according to your truth! Grant me purity of heart, so that I may honor you. Psalm 86:11
Let there be no sexual immorality, impurity, or greed among you. Such sins have no place among God’s people. Ephesians 5:3
Warfare Prayer for Husband:
Father, you are good, pure, and mighty. Our holy and righteous God! Thank you for the redemption you give through Jesus Christ. Thank you that you can wash us clean and purify our hearts. Lord, help us confess and turn quickly when we’re tempted or fall into sin. Help us to be daily sensitive to your spirit and honor you! I pray that my husband is steadfast in purity and guards his heart from anything that can defile him. Place a hedge of protection over our marriage and shield him from anything that could distract him from our covenant and your heart. Help us both by your grace to be pure-minded and guard our hearts. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
Praying for your husband – Thankfulness
Pray your husband has a heart of thankfulness. All that we have comes from the Lord. When we take the time to give thanks, we are reminded of the goodness of the Lord and His abundant provision. The Lord is to be celebrated.
“O our God, we thank you and praise your glorious name! But who am I, and who are my people, that we could give anything to you? Everything we have come from you, and we give you only what you first gave us!” 1 Chronicles 29:13-14
And give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Ephesians 5:20
Warfare Prayer for Husband:
Father, you deserve all of our praise, all honor, and glory! We praise you! Father, forgive us when we try to take glory from you or are not thankful for what you have given and daily give to us! Help us grow in thanksgiving to you and towards each other. I pray that my husband and I give credit and honor to you for the blessings in our life. Lord, I ask that we each have hearts of thankfulness and are not caught up in getting more but giving more. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
Praying for your husband – Wisdom
Pray your husband seeks God’s wisdom. Plead that he does not lean on himself for answers alone. Pray that he relies on the Gracious Giver of wisdom who gives generously to all.
Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and shun evil. Proverbs 3:7
If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. James 1:5

Father, what grace that we even know you as the Gracious Giver! You are full of wisdom and you give generously to all who ask. Lord, thank you for your goodness. We are desperate for your wisdom. Father, forgive us when we try to do things on our own without even considering you. God, I pray that my husband seeks your wisdom through your Word, godly counsel, and through prayer. Help us both to grow in this together. I thank you that we can come to you with anything, always, and at any time and you will give generously. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
Praying for your husband – Trust in the Lord
Pray that your husband not only asks, but also trusts in the Lord. Pray that his faith grows to rely and depend on God to guide and direct his steps each day.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. Proverbs 3:5-6

Father, you are fully trustworthy. I praise you for being sovereign and the Sustainer of all things! I confess my lack of trust sometimes and for depending on what I see rather than what your Word tells me in faith. Forgive me and build my trust in you! Help my husband as well to grow to depend and rely on you alone. Lord, you know the right path, help us to rely on you to guide our steps. Help us to trust you in this life and know that even when we don’t see your hand at work, it doesn’t mean you’re not working. We trust you and know that you are faithful in all things. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
Praying for your husband – Deal with Sin Immediately
Pray that your husband will deal with sin immediately. By our confession and through Jesus Christ, our sins are forgiven the moment we ask. Pray that he submits quickly to the conviction of the Spirit*.
*Note to self: the conviction of the Holy Spirit, not the “wife spirit”.
We are here to proclaim that through this man Jesus there is forgiveness for your sins. Everyone who believes in him is made right in God’s sight – something the law of Moses could never do. Acts 13:38-39
Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord.” And you forgave the guilt of my sin. Psalm 32:5
Warfare Prayer for Husband:
Father, it’s only because of your great gift of salvation to us that we can be forgiven of our sins! Thank you for the freedom we can find in you and for your neverending mercy and grace! I confess and acknowledge my sin to you and receive again your most precious mercy and grace, my Father of mercies! Help me to share this mercy and grace with my husband. Lord, I pray that my husband is sensitive to sin and deals with it quickly. Help us both. God, I pray that my husband walks righteously with you and submits to you quickly in conviction of the Holy Spirit. Help us to walk closely with you and to abhor sin and deal with it quickly. In Jesus Name, Amen.
Powerful Prayers For Your Husband
Prayer Warrior, keep running this race with your eyes fixed firmly on Jesus. Do not let defeats and discouragements dictate your diligence in praying. Remain faithful with your eyes fixed firmly on the author of our faith and your husband’s!
As you are praying for your husband, run this race with endurance and diligence. Let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Hebrews 12:2
