My first thought for doing a post on Scriptures On Love was that I didn’t want it to be another cheesy Valentine reference for love. However, I certainly desired to encourage and share the ultimate gift of love from our Heavenly Father during this Love Month.
So rest assured, this is full of powerful scriptures that you can meditate on this month and forever!
It did not take long at all for my heart to be overwhelmed as I was going through these scriptures on love. I know it will do the same for you!
Scriptures On Love
Likely two of the most recognized scriptures on love are from 1 John and 1 Corinthians. 1 John 4:7 tells us, “God is love.”
He is the source of love. Over and over throughout scripture, we’re told of God’s “unfailing love”. His love does not fail.
Love that never fails. This leads us to our next passage:
Love never fails. 1 Corinthians 13:8 (NIV)
With these two scriptures alone, we’re set the framework that God is love and His love never fails. As God’s created beings, He’s put into our very makeup a deep desire and longing that only He can fill!
Do you know what our deepest longings and desires of our hearts are?
I’ll let Proverbs 19:22a (NIV) answer that one: What a person desires is unfailing love. Proverbs 19:22a (NIV)
The scriptures on love you are about to read will be set up in this way:
We desire unfailing love. —>>> God IS unfailing love.
What is God’s definition of love?
The most known scriptures on love that defines love are from 1 Corinthians 13:4-5 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
The Life Application Study Bible concordance explains love in this way: The ultimate expression of God’s loyalty, purity, and mercy extended toward his people – to be reflected in human relationships of brother concern, marital fidelity, and adoration of God.
We desire unfailing love; God gives unfailing love; and through Jesus Christ, we are able to reflect His love to others.
God’s love for us was lavished upon us by the sacrifice of his Son, Jesus. When we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior and ask Him to forgive us from our sins, we are filled with the Holy Spirit. He gives us the power to love and reflect God’s love. (1 John 4:9-19)
Bible Verses about loving others
Do everything in love. 1 Corinthians 16:14
And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. Colossians 3:14
Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Ephesians 4:2
If we try to love on our own and through our own strength (without the Holy Spirit) it is burdensome, exhausting, weighted, and pretty much impossible especially if the other party is very difficult!
God gives us the power to love (Romans 5:5, 8:9). This does not mean it is always easy, but that it is possible to love even those that are difficult because of the Holy Spirit within us!
For some, this may be rudimentary in thought, especially with those who have tons of bible knowledge and church background. However, this is definitely not a simple idea.
This is TRUTH, and it’s glorious and wonderful!
God loved us even when we were most difficult, lost to sin, and without hope, yet He sacrificed His Son to bring us to Himself.

It is this very love that we have within us to give to others and emulate through His Spirit – even the hard and difficult.
This truth is one that needs to be rooted deep, deep down in our hearts.
Also, love is a fruit of the Spirit within us. When we’re walking with the Spirit, not only is love a by-product, but also joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22).
This fuels my soul to consider! The wildly gracious Giver gives us SO much when we yield ourselves to Him. We’re lavished by the goodness of God!
I say all this at the beginning because it’s so important to understand that it initiates with God. He is our Source. If He’s not the Source, it’s an endless cycle of frustration, letdown, and likely, bitterness.
