Encouraging Bible Verses About Being Chosen

Sharing is caring!

Ephesians 1:3 ESV tells us, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world.” This verse and the surrounding verses blow me away and have inspired this post on Chosen Bible Verses.

Before the beginning of time, God set His affection on us! This is overwhelming when considered.

I pray these verses on being chosen by God bring encouragement to you! In times of doubt, keep them close as a reminder that God has chosen you, called you by name, and you are His by faith through Jesus Christ alone!

Called and Chosen Bible Verse:

Matthew 22:14 For many are called, but few are chosen.

Ephesians 1:4-5 Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure.

Galatians 1:15-16 But even before I was born, God chose me and called me by his marvelous grace. Then it pleased him to reveal his Son to me so that I would proclaim the Good News about Jesus to the Gentiles.

Isaiah 43:10 “But you are my witnesses, O Israel!” says the Lord. “You are my servant. You have been chosen to know me, believe in me, and understand that I alone am God. There is no other God— there never has been, and there never will be.

John 6:44 For no one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them to me, and at the last day I will raise them up.

John 6:37 However, those the Father has given me will come to me, and I will never reject them.

Romans 8:28-30 And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son, so that his Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. And having chosen them, he called them to come to him. And having called them, he gave them right standing with himself. And having given them right standing, he gave them his glory.

chosen bible verses

What does God say about the chosen ones?

It is by the incredible riches of God’s grace alone that we are chosen in Christ! The more I’ve studied these chosen bible verses, the clearer it becomes in the sacredness that God chose me not because of anything I’ve ever done or could ever do but because of HIM and His great love and mercy.

Deuteronomy 7:6 tells us, “For you are a holy people to the LORD your God; the LORD your God has chosen you to be a people for His own possession out of all the peoples who are on the face of the earth.”

Chosen. Selected. Set apart. We learn through the Old Testament that God chose the Israelites to be His chosen people and this treasure and sacredness of being chosen continues into the New Testament and into today.

If you have come to Jesus in faith, He says, “You did not choose me, but I chose you.” Jn 15:16.

Does this not absolutely stun and overwhelm you!? John Piper shares an excellent piece that includes 10 reasons to revel in being chosen by God.

To add to that, we have clear instructions for living out of this sacred position and place of being chosen. Colossians 3:12-17 shares, “So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience; bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you. Beyond all these things put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity.”

Are we chosen by God?

As I mentioned at the very beginning, spend any time in the first 14 verses of Ephesians 1 and you’ll be fully convinced that we are indeed chosen by God! In addition to the chosen bible verses above, here are just a few of the phrases used in Ephesians 1: God loved us, chose us, bringing us to himself, who belong to his dear Son, chosen, purchased our freedom, chose us, he identified you as his own…

From the beginning of time, He planned and initiated our redemption in Christ! He chose His people in His love with the purpose of our election that we be holy and blameless before Him. (Ephesians 1:4)

Through the Holy Spirit, as we grow to understand and find security in God choosing us, the talons and grips of the world that we search for belonging in will lose its hold and power.

It’s true.

Chosen by God stands tall and mighty in the face of worldly rejection and neglect. As mentioned earlier in John 15:18-19, Jesus tells us, “If the world hates you, remember that it hated me first. The world would love you as one of its own if you belonged to it, but you are no longer part of the world. I chose you to come out of the world, so it hates you.” (emphasis mine)

Chosen by God

As God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, we can walk enveloped in security and confidence knowing that God who created and formed each of us says, “Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you. I have called you by name; you are mine.” Isaiah 43:1

In pure God fashion, His grace abounds and it doesn’t end with us being chosen by God. The beautiful words of Isaiah 43:2 continue, “When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up.”

And remember, “God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure.” (Ephesians 1:5 emphasis mine)

What can possibly compare to being chosen by God Almighty? This is to be daily celebrated and treasured!

Chosen by God Quotes

The wonder is that the ultimate aim of being chosen is the ultimate joy of being satisfied. And the wonder deepens as we realize that we human beings were designed to find our fullest satisfaction not in front of a mirror, but in front of God. John Piper

‘I have chosen you.’ Keep that note of greatness in your creed. It is not that you have got God but that He has got you. Oswald Chambers

  1. What a responsibility He has given us!! How humbling, humiliating, releasing, exhilarating to realize that my Lord loves me so much. I know what freedom is, now.
