God’s Love For Us: What You Need to Know

Sharing is caring!

Let’s talk God’s love for us. It’s one of my most favorite conversations.

Do you ever just stop and think about the fact that God loves sinners?

Of course he loves sinners! But don’t you think sometimes we gloss over, sugarcoat, or casually consider this fact?

I do. I think it’s easy to minimize this truth in our days or even let it become such a casual, common thought we forget the beauty behind it.

God’s Love For Us

We are all born sinners. We were not worthy of being with God. It was out of God’s compassion and mercy that he sent Jesus to rescue us!

“we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind…But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved” Ephesians 2:3-6 ESV

God loves us because of His greatness and mercy, not because of any good we could ever do.

Hello, Grace

Sometimes, I do more than just brush over this fact. Admittedly, I’ve even flirted with the lie that I wasn’t that bad of a person.

Thoughts would swirl from time to time such as I’m a decent person. I look out for others. Or my sins weren’t that bad..

Have you ever had those thoughts?

Here’s the hard truth – before Christ, there is no inherent good in us. Zilch. Nada. None.

Imagine this scene: there’s a huge, gaping ravine and God, in all His holy glory, is at the top. Now picture yourself at the bottom of the ravine, with miles of separation (aka eternity) between you and God.

No matter how much you do, work, try, or attempt to move closer to God, you will not budge even a millimeter closer to Him.

Let’s take this a step further and consider that you were born separated from Him as an enemy, because of your sin and His righteousness.

So your first breath put you in the pit of the ravine with no ladder and no route to go up. Why? We’re separated because He is holy and cannot be associated with sin.

And finally, imagine as God’s enemy, because of your sin, the ravine wasn’t only a gaping pit with miles between you and God but that the bottom of the pit was covered in water and it was gushing over you. Without being rescued, there was no hope for us.

Sound morbid? It was. We were surely doomed!

But God

But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christby grace you have been saved” Ephesians 2:3-6

Even though we were enemies and helpless to do anything for ourselves, our holy, good, and righteous God in his great love for us saved us at the cost of His precious Son.

When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners…But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:6-8

That’s God’s love for us.

God’s Love For Us Is Undeserved Grace

Undeserved grace and extreme kindness are the makings of His perfect love for us. There is nothing we could ever do to reciprocate or offer in exchange. We have nothing at all to give to a Holy and Righteous God.

He chose you and He chose me at the cost of His son.

Can you fathom this love? It’s incomprehensible.

In God’s great mercy, we have been redeemed because of Jesus. He is quite literally our Savior. His sacrifice made salvation possible and it leads to real repentance and yearning to love and obey God. He made us right with God!

It was recorded for our benefit, too, assuring us that God will also count us as righteous if we believe in him, the one who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead. He was handed over to die because of our sins, and he was raised to life to make us right with God. Romans 4:24-25 NLT

For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ. 2 Corinthians 5:21 NLT

I love that verse so much. When we believe and trust in Christ, he takes our sin and makes us right with God.

Right with God

Our gaping ravine from earlier, the cross was planted right in the middle and Jesus’s sacrifice brought us straight to God and made us right with Him. Only because of Christ.

We are now free to obey, through God’s power and we can rest knowing the gaping ravine is sealed up for us to never worry of falling in again. We are no longer his enemies. He clothes us now in his perfect righteousness.

So when God looks upon us now, he sees the righteousness of Christ the Son.

God has united you with Christ Jesus. For our benefit God made him to be wisdom itself. Christ made us right with God; he made us pure and holy, and he freed us from sin. 1 Corinthians 1:30 NLT

And you know what? It doesn’t even stop there!

So now we can rejoice in our wonderful new relationship with God because our Lord Jesus Christ has made us friends with God. Romans 5:11 NLT

God’s love for us provides a wonderfully new relationship with Him because of Jesus Christ!

God’s Perfect Love For Us

I know this post is scripture heavy but there is too much goodness to share! Romans is Ah-mazing.

Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us. Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God’s glory. Romans 5:1-2

So, because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege. God has drawn us close to himself AND declared us not guilty. This is His love for us!

My question is, do you confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God’s glory?

We absolutely should! God’s love for us is merciful, gracious, and undeserving.

Without Jesus dying for us, we wouldn’t comprehend the riches of His grace, the extent of His holiness.

His love should be fresh and vibrant in our lives.

If you wonder about God’s love for us today, rest in this:

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. Lamentations 3:22-23 ESV
