Powerful Bible Verses About Believing Without Seeing

Sharing is caring!

How blessed are we to have the gift of vision and sight in our physical world! But, glory to God for the eyes of faith and spiritual eyes we have as well! Carry these powerful Bible Verses About Believing Without Seeing close to your heart for the times your physical vision distorts or distracts your spiritual vision!

One of my favorite stories in the bible is the story of Elisha found in 2 Kings chapter 6. Elisha, the prophet, would intercept plans of attack against Israel and inform the king of Israel so they would be alert and protected. Time and again he thwarted these planned attacks.

In verses 11-13 we’re told, “The king of Aram was very upset over this. He called his officers together and demanded, “Which of you is the traitor? Who has been informing the king of Israel of my plans?”

“It is not us, my lord the king,” one of the officers replied. “Elisha, the prophet of Israel, tells the king of Israel even the words you speak in the privacy of your bedroom!”

“Go and find out where he is,” the king commanded, “so I can send troops to seize him.” (vs 13)

At this point, the king of Aram received word of where Elisha was and he sent “a great army with many chariots and horses to surround the city.”

Verse 15: When the servant of the man of God got up early the next morning and went outside; there were troops, horses, and chariots everywhere.

“Oh, sir, what will we do now?” the young man cried to Elisha.

“Don’t be afraid!” Elisha told him. “For there are more on our side than on theirs!” Then Elisha prayed, “O Lord, open his eyes and let him see!”

The Lord opened the young man’s eyes, and when he looked up, he saw that the hillside around Elisha was filled with chariots of fire. (vs 17)

This is such a powerful story of what is taking place beyond what we can see with our physical eyes and reminds us there is a spiritual world at great work surrounding us that we cannot see.

My prayer is the same as Elisha’s: Lord, open our eyes and let us see, and in the meantime, give us faith to believe without seeing!

The following bible verses about believing without seeing are to encourage you during the times you waver. Maybe you’re discouraged because of your current circumstances and all that you see looks abysmal and disheartening.

This is where the rubber meets the road and where you lean on your eyes of faith in spite of your physical eyes.

Then Jesus told him, “You believe because you have seen me. Blessed are those who believe without seeing me.” John 20:29 NLT

Bible Verses About Faith and Trust

In addition to bible verses about believing without seeing, take note of these bible verses about faith and trust.

Faith and trust go hand in hand. Peter is an incredible example of this when he got out of the boat and walked on water to Jesus. (Matthew 14:22-33) He trusted Jesus and stepped out of the boat, even though his eyes and head knowledge knew he would sink otherwise.

Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” (vs 29-30)

Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?” (vs 31)

How limited we can be by our physical eyes sometimes!

Trust in the LORD with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6 NLT

“I tell you the truth, those who listen to my message and believe in God who sent me have eternal life. They will never be condemned for their sins, but they have already passed from death into life. John 5:24

Whoever believes in Him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe has already been condemned, because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. John 3:18

Truly, truly, I tell you, he who believes has eternal life. John 6:47

But these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in His name. John 20:31

But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. John 1:12 NLT

For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. Ephesians 2:8-9 NLT

“What do you mean, ‘If I can’?” Jesus asked. “Anything is possible if a person believes.” Mark 9:23 NLT

What does the bible say about believing without seeing?

The bible has much to say about believing without seeing. The book of John alone references this throughout. But if it were to be summed up in one word for believing without seeing, it would be “blessed”.

Then Jesus told him, “You believe because you have seen me. Blessed are those who believe without seeing me.” John 20:29 NLT (emphasis mine)

The bible always proves the bible. God’s word is so incredible. 1 Peter 1:8-9 tells us, “You love him even though you have never seen him. Though you do not see him now, you trust him; and you rejoice with a glorious, inexpressible joy. The reward for trusting him will be the salvation of your souls.”
