I’m so excited to dive in and share how these scriptures to help you sleep will impact you for good and encourage you along the way! You can’t go wrong with these Psalms to read at night!

Often times when we cannot sleep, we’re grappling with thoughts, worries, and concerns we’re trying to figure out or stressing over. One truth we need to hold on to is that God is always working on our behalf – whether we see the progress or not, we can rest knowing He is on guard and at work.

Consider these powerful God does not sleep verses from Psalm 121:3-4 “He will not let you stumble; the one who watches over you will not slumber. Indeed, he who watches over Israel never slumbers or sleeps.”

We can rest peacefully knowing God is watching over us always.

What to do when you can’t sleep?

When I compiled my list of bible verses for sleep, I had been reading through Psalm 119 for the last couple of days. These are more than just bible verses for insomnia, these verses help refocus your mind and calm you for a peaceful sleep.

1. Bible Verses To Help Me Sleep – Psalm 119:55

Have you ever wondered what’s a good bible verse before bed? When you can’t sleep, reflect on who God is. Psalm 119:55 is what first caught my attention. The author stated that he reflects at night on who you are, O LORD.

How often do we toss and turn trying to solve life’s problems instead of calming our mind’s down and finding rest?

We worry, and dread, or over-analyze situations. Or maybe our anxiety over issues gets out of control (why does this happen when we need sleep!?)

What if we followed the words from Psalm 119:55 and instead, reflected on who God is? This immediately shifts our focus from ‘everything else’ to God. To consider who God is brings peace and calm to our soul.

God is: Almighty, Supreme, Life, Wise, Creator, Good, Sovereign, and the list goes on and on.

Pick one and consider who God is in your life when you struggle to sleep. Make the choice to dwell and reflect on who God is instead of what your struggle is.

2. Bible Verses to help me sleep – Psalm 42:8

The next verse on my Bible Verses to Help Me Sleep list is Psalm 42:8: But each day the LORD pours his unfailing love upon me, and through each night I sing his songs.

The next time you’re restless and unable to sleep, play some worship music or praise songs! Give praise to God. Learning about the power of praise never gets old to me. It truly changes the entire atmosphere when we turn to praise.

Singing may not be an option if your spouse is already asleep, but throw on some headphones and let praise songs stir your heart to peaceful rest.

3. Bible Verses to help me sleep – Psalm 63:6

Psalm 63:6 was written by David and he says, I lie awake thinking of you, meditating on you through the night. This sparked the idea of bedtime scripture meditation.

My default for bedtime has typically not been scripture meditation or thoughts on God each night, but what would happen if this became a habit?

I’ve recently been using the YouVersion App on my phone and once I get settled, will read Psalms or continue reading from where I left off in the morning. It is such a wonderful way to unwind and get my mind settled on God before I fall asleep.

4. Bible Verse Before Sleep – Psalm 92:2

It is good to proclaim your unfailing love in the morning, your faithfulness in the evening. Psalm 92:2

I’ve begun to think of this verse much more often lately.

I love to consider this scripture to help me sleep because it’s such a fabulous verse to bookend our days with meeting God in the morning and proclaiming His faithfulness in the evening.

When you struggle to sleep, consider God’s faithfulness over your day, your week, or the past year.

5. Bible Verses to help me sleep – Psalm 119:62

Psalm 119:62 says, I rise at midnight to thank you for your just regulations. What struck me with this verse is that he intentionally rose to give thanks to God in the middle of the night!

Oftentimes when I can’t sleep, it’s right around or beyond the midnight hour. Giving thanks to God is another intentional step of thanking God and turning my mind to Him.

6. Bible Verses To Help Me Sleep – Psalm 119:148

The final bible verse to help me sleep is Psalm 119:148 I stay awake through the night, thinking about your promise.

God’s given us many promises:

  • For God gave us a spirit not of fear, but of power and love and sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7
  • Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9
  • Those who wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:31
  • And we know that for those who love God all things will work for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28
