What Does the Bible Say About Finding Peace?

1. True Peace Comes From God

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” — John 14:27

When seeking peace, many turn to self-help books or meditation apps. But according to Scripture, true peace is not something we create—it’s something we receive from Jesus.

Practical Action Step:

Start your day with quiet prayer and Bible reading. Meditate on Scriptures about peace like Psalm 23, Philippians 4:6–7, and Isaiah 26:3. Invite God into your day.

One of my absolute favorite devotional books is Ruth Chou Simmons’ called Gracelaced. Her beautiful artwork and devotions invite you to rest in who God is, rehearse what God says about you, respond in faith to those truths, and remember His provision to sustain you.

If you enjoy coloring, this is fun devotional coloring book to help set your mind on bible scriptures and truth.

2. Peace Starts in the Mind

“You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.” — Isaiah 26:3

Your mind is the battlefield where peace is won or lost. If you constantly dwell on fear or negativity, peace will feel distant. But when your thoughts are anchored in truth and trust, peace follows.

Practical Action Step:

Limit news and social media consumption. Replace anxious input with worship music, Scripture, and faith-based podcasts. Create a “peace playlist” that helps you refocus on God.

3. Surrender Control Through Prayer

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” — Philippians 4:6–7

Still searching for how to find peace? Often, peace comes when we stop trying to control everything. Prayer is where we let go of burdens and trust God with the outcome.

Practical Action Step:

Try journaling your worries and prayers. End each entry by listing what you’re grateful for. This shift in focus reduces anxiety and opens your heart to peace.

4. Pursue Peace With Others

“If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.” — Romans 12:18

Unforgiveness and unresolved conflict can be roadblocks to peace. The Bible encourages us to be peacemakers, not peacekeepers—actively working toward reconciliation.

Practical Action Step:

Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal any relationships where peace is missing. Take a step toward forgiveness, healing, or establishing healthy boundaries.

5. Observe a Sabbath Rest

“Be still, and know that I am God.” — Psalm 46:10
“The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.” — Mark 2:27

God created rest for our good. When we neglect rest, we rob ourselves of the space needed to hear from Him and find peace.

Practical Action Step:

Set aside one day—or even a few hours—each week to unplug from technology and reconnect with God. Use this time for prayer, nature walks, worship, or family reflection.

6. Remember: Peace Is a Person

Ultimately, learning how to find peace is about drawing near to Jesus, the Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6). He doesn’t promise a storm-free life, but He does promise to be with us in every storm.

How to Find Peace That Lasts

Finding peace isn’t about escaping life’s challenges—it’s about anchoring your soul in something deeper. By trusting God, renewing your mind, and practicing spiritual rhythms, you can experience biblical peace that remains even in chaos.

3 Promises of Peace

When we put our trust in Jesus Christ, the Great Exchange takes place. He takes our brokenness, our desperation, our emptiness, and He makes us whole in Him.

He gives the gift of Himself which is perfect peace – among many other things! How to find peace is by pursuing the One that is peace.

Promise #1

“I am leaving you with a gift – peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.” John 14:27

This is more than just a bible verse on peace to read in passing quickly. This is a promise from the Savior of the world.

We have the indwelling power of the Holy Spirit within us. If it were up to ourselves, we’d have a mile-long checklist of things to do and attain in an attempt to capture peace.

It’s not possible and can quickly turn into an endless effort to keep reaching for something we will never grasp. It’s easy for us as Christians to get tempted and distracted by the chaos and panic of the world and fall into this trap.

But note this: it is a trap.

We are different from the world because of Jesus and the good news of the gospel. We have been given power, hope, joy, and peace that only He provides.

When you find yourself starting to get caught up in the panic, turn your attention back to Peace Himself.

Promise #2

You could say the promises of peace get better and better but the truth is, they all affirm the very same thing. Our peace comes from the Lord!

“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7

I love this passage because it promises us that we will experience God’s peace and that through that peace, God will guard our hearts and minds as we live in Christ Jesus.

For so long I focused on the words, “do not worry about anything” and tried to basically will myself not worry or be scared. Let me tell you how that went: awful.

It was exhausting and unattainable. There was no way I could psyche myself out of not being scared or worried no matter how hard I tried.

You have to read the entire passage and note the final words: as you live in Christ Jesus.

I was trying not to worry on my own and in my own strength and I was still living very much in the world, not in Christ Jesus. I tried to hold and control instead of giving up and releasing to Him what I was not meant to keep.

Receiving Peace:

  1. Pray to God about everything. Nothing is too small or too gigantic for him to handle. He desires for us to turn to Him and share our hearts and struggles and give them over to Him.
  1. Tell God what you need. Confess your weakness. Admit your struggles. If you’re scared, tell Him. If you’re exhausted, worried, and worn out, tell Him so He can give you rest. Trust in the work of Jesus Christ and rely on Him alone.
  1. Thank God for all that He has done. Look back on your own life and also, the miraculous works of the bible. He is worthy to be praised, thanked, and celebrated. Praise our Father that Immanuel, God with us, never leaves us alone when we are scared!

What does this lead to? It leads to God’s perfect peace which exceeds anything we can understand.

God knew since the beginning of time what every day would hold. Psalm 139:16 tells us, “Your eyes saw my unformed substance, in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.” Nothing is a surprise to Him and He is never caught off guard.

I love this quote from Corrie Ten Boom:

Never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God.

Even when the world is gripped with worry, panic and fear, we can still rest in God’s gift of peace! No, logically it doesn’t make sense to not be fearful when everyone around you is in panic-mode but His peace surpasses all understanding.

As you live in Christ…receive his perfect peace.

Promise #3

You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you! Isaiah 26:3

Another beautiful promise of peace. Perfect peace is supernatural peace from God alone. When we’re swimming through chaos, God gives the inner calm and perfect peace to our hearts.

We are guarded by it. It’s such a gift that can hardly be explained, but when received is breathtakingly beautiful.

This peace is ours for the taking. It’s been given to us and lavished upon us!

Receive it. Give God glory and praise for these promises of peace that surpasses all understanding.

Times like these especially, our world needs to be introduced to the Prince of Peace. Share Him with others.

Let others see that you are different because of Jesus Christ in you.

Even in this chaotic time in our world, the birds are still singing. God still holds all of creation – including you and me – together. (Colossians 1:17)

Prayer for Peace:

Father, we praise you for who you are. You are over all things and nothing is a surprise to you. We give you all honor and glory.

Lord, we ask for your perfect peace to wash over us. We struggle and are tempted these days to try to attain peace in our own means and know those ways are fleeting. Lord, grant us your peace that passes all understanding.

You are the Prince of Peace and we are yours. Lord, we want to rest in you. Cover us completely with peace. Your word says it will guard our hearts. Lord, we ask that your peace guard our hearts and we praise you for this gift.

God, I give you all of my fears, worries, and anxieties and ask for your peace today. If I don’t “feel” it immediately, help me to trust you and know that your words are true.

You are able, mighty, full of power, sovereign, and the God of PEACE and I am so thankful you call me yours.

Father, I want to rest in you today. Moment by moment, let my heart be found in you.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
